ABOUT CAVERN OF DREAMS

Cavern of Dreams became a reality in 1999 - it is owned and operated by Mary M. Cushnie-Mansour. Mary was born on November 15, 1953, in Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada. She is a freelance creative writer who now resides in Brantford, Ontario with her husband, Adel (Ed).

Mary's love for the written word began at a very early age. Daydreamer was the description her teachers would write on her report cards - little did they know that the seeds of great writings to come were germinating in the caverns of Mary's mind!

In March 2006, Mary completed a freelance journalism course at the University of Waterloo, after which she began writing freelance articles and a fictional short-story column for the Brantford Expositor.

Mary has published, four poetry anthologies (see poetry page); and a collection of short stories (see short story page). She also writes children's stories, novels, plays and songs.

Mary is active in the writing community. For several years she ran a creative writing program, "Just Imagine," for the Grand Erie District School Board. Mary is always encouraging those who have a love for writing to follow their dreams, and she has assisted some in the publishing of their own books.

In 2009 and 2010 Mary participated in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). This is a competition in which an individual must complete a 50,000 word novel in one month (November being the chosen month.) The prize is a certificate of recognition and a novel ready for editing - also the personal satisfaction "that it can be done!" Mary completed "Are You Listening to Me" in 2009 and "Hope's Merry-Go-Round" in 2010. Both novels are sitting on the burner while she works on "Night's Children," book two in her vampire trilogy.

Mary's book, NIGHT'S GIFT won the prestigious EDITOR'S CHOICE award from the publisher, IUniverse. NIGHT'S GIFT is the first in a series. Mary also earned a READER'S CHOICE designation for NIGHT'S GIFT (see testimonials) On September 12, 2011, Mary received notice from the IUniverse Star Program Board that she has been accepted into the STAR PROGRAM. This is exciting news indeed, for it means IUniverse will be promoting Mary's book to stores, traditional publishers, and more!
